What is the Abundance Mindset?
An abundance mindset is the total opposite of my previous post on the scarcity mindset. Having an abundance mindset means you believe in limitless possibilities, potential, resources and success for everyone around you.
To have an abundance mindset means you feel secure in your professional life and have a deeper sense of worth and gratefulness. It means you don’t feel insecure when you’re not doing as well in your business; because your worth is not tied to material gain but to the experience itself. It means you are not easily discouraged and are not drawn to negative traits such as envy or spite.
It’s important to remember that even when we have an abundance mindset, it doesn’t mean we’re emotionally and psychologically invincible. It’s okay to feel discouraged and unmotivated, it’s actually healthy to notice these things in ourselves. Where a scarcity mindset encourages someone to sabotage their rivals or give up an abundance mindset takes time to re-assess the situation.
Every setback becomes a setup for a comeback.
What do we get when we work on having an abundance mindset? Let’s take a look:
1) The world is much bigger than we sometimes think
By looking at the world this way, we start to notice that if the world is this big, it is open to many opportunities and experiences we haven’t come across. We can be open-minded and look at other ways of doing things.
We don’t just give up when something doesn’t work because we accept there might be methods we haven’t considered.
Instead of saying. “It’s not possible”, we say. “It’s not possible because no one has done it yet.”
2) You are not afraid of missed opportunities
If the world is large enough for all of us, that means it’s full of possibilities and opportunities. Instead of being stuck in the past, we accept that opportunities will always present themselves.
We are not barbarians fighting against each other for scraps caveman style. We are all human beings trying our best, and we all deserve greatness for the work we put in.
3) You’re not afraid of the future
When you have a scarcity mindset you are constantly anxious about the future because it is filled with unknowns. With an abundance mindset, there is an excitement about the future. Even if we don’t know what is coming next (whether good or bad) one thing is for certain, there will be an abundance of new opportunities for your business and your development.
The most amazing thing about having an abundance mindset is that even when bad situations arise, we see them as challenges and not as the end of the world.
4) You encourage healthy sharing
Because you don’t have a scarcity mindset you can share your advice, time and knowledge without feeling like you’re losing something. You can help people selflessly because to you it’s not a zero-sum game where we have winners and losers.
People will notice how much you’re willing to help and it might lead to them helping you too. We’re in this together after all.

5) You are happy for others
When other people reach success you won’t feel like you’re missing out or that your chances of doing so are decreasing. Instead, you look at the situation for what it is, a happy moment for someone else. You can step into someone else’s shoes and be happy for them. You’re even encouraged to seek advice without feeling like you’ll lose something.
An abundance mindset allows you to form meaningful connections and collaborations with those around you.
It’s a joy working with partners that have an abundance mindset because you know at the end of any given project everyone involved would have grown and there is trust there.
6) You appreciate more
In a world that has many good things happening every day, many bad things happen as well. Being appreciative means we don’t dwell only on the bad things, we instead use our time and energy on appreciating all the good stuff.
Now I’m not saying we ignore when bad things happen. I believe we should use those experiences to learn and grow but we shouldn’t let those bad events bring us down. We have achieved a lot to be where we are today, it would be unfair to ourselves to not appreciate that.
7) You keep learning and developing
Because you don’t compete and choose to focus on improving yourself, you will continue to grow.
People with an abundance mindset are fun to be around; they are always in the moment and you can count on them to be authentic.
