Meditation is the process of removing clutter in the mind. Training ourselves to focus and be more aware of our thoughts — the good and the bad.
Through meditation, we open ourselves to a lot of health benefits. We begin to have a more positive outlook on life, reduced stress, improved concentration, quality sleep and higher levels of tolerance.
I’m going to go into some detail regarding the benefits of meditation. It’s my hope that after I’m done sharing this information we encourage each other to meditate more often.
Meditation reduces anxiety
Meditation, as I mentioned before, helps reduce anxiety.
Research shows that meditation increases positive self-talk and it helps us cope with stress.
Enhanced self-awareness
Meditation helps us introspect and to have a deeper understanding of ourselves. By looking at our flaws and confronting our personal issues we learn to grow into our best selves.
Meditation helps us analyze our own thoughts; to see the ones that are harmful or helpful. When we gain more awareness of our own thoughts and behaviour we can move ourselves
Improves attention span
The more we meditate, the more we become better at entering our zen state. It takes effort to meditate at first as we try to filter our thoughts and bring out our best selves. The better we get at meditation, the more our skill at paying attention improves as a result of our increased focus.
Think about it, by clearing our minds often, we get rid of stress and anxiety and it allows our minds to focus on what actually matters.

You gain more empathy
As you learn to look within, at your flaws and all, you also learn to forgive yourself. This same compassion begins to overflow over time and you will begin finding it easier to be patient and considerate of others.
Meditation gives you mental fortitude because you would have explored your trauma and triggers. This allows you to connect with others on a deeper level. Instead of running away from pain, you begin trying to understand it. And once you’re done with all the heavy lifting, you’ll find it comes naturally to help others who may be going through the same problems.
That’s empathy. That’s power.
Quality sleep
Many people struggle with insomnia.
Meditation helps us with stress and anxiety. As a result, we become more relaxed as we release all the unnecessary tension from our bodies and mind. This peaceful state offers us a level of sleep we wouldn’t get if we didn’t meditate.
Improves emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is all about managing how we emote. So for example, if someone insults me, instead of getting angry, I shrug them off because I know I have better things to do with my time.
Or if a project I’ve been working on doesn’t work out, instead of getting into a tantrum, I think about what I could have done better.
Meditation helps us reach this level of emotional intelligence; where we don’t let our emotions take control. We allow ourselves to feel things, but we don’t let what we feel take over our entire being.
